The past week has felt very busy but I was lucky enough to start it out last Sunday with a fun day in Brooklyn. I met a few friends in Williamsburg for brunch at a spot called Battery Harris. The decor inside was tropical and cheery and the food was amazing.
After we had our fill at brunch, we wandered over to Bedford Avenue and enjoyed looking in plenty of cute shops, including Catbird, which features tons of charming jewelry. I wanted to buy everything! I did end up buying a hat from a street vendor and I highly recommend checking out this area if you’re looking for something unique.
After shopping, we needed a bite to eat and popped into a cute Spanish style restaurant before heading home.
All in all, it was a great day full of yummy food, interesting sights and plenty of laughter. I can’t wait for the weather to warm up to continue exploring more neighborhoods around me!
Happy Sunday everyone! I’ve spent most of the weekend hanging out inside catching up on sleep and relaxing.
I did fit in a little bit of fun after work on Friday. I met up with a few girls I met recently through Bumble BFF, an app that lets you make new friends wherever you are. We went to a rooftop bar called Rare View and enjoyed the unusually warm weather.
After taking in the beautiful views of the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center, we decided to grab a bite at a new Greek restaurant, Mykonos Blue. The restaurant is located inside a hotel and everything we ordered was absolutely amazing! I even got a little crazy and tried octopus which was surprisingly delicious.
This week I’ll be starting to move into my new apartment…stay tuned!
Happy Monday! Let me start by saying that I’m exhausted. I took a quick trip back home this weekend to see the family and pack up a few remaining things at my old apartment. It was weird yet comforting being back in my old surroundings.
I was lucky enough to be able to take in a basketball and baseball game, eat some tasty food and spend time with my family and a few friends.
After catching a plane Sunday afternoon, I felt a sense of comfort landing back in New York and hopping in a cab. I’ll take that as a sign that for now I’m meant to be here.
Hope you all had a great weekend wherever you were!
After being blessed with a beautiful, sunny, 60 degree day yesterday, Mother Nature decided to dump a blizzard on New York City today. And for those who don’t know, I was raised primarily in the South and various tropical locales.
So it pretty much goes without saying that I’m not used to dealing with snow at all.
I woke up this morning to a winter wonderland and went into the office like it was any other day. The weather wasn’t too bad and I was well prepared with snow boots, a down jacket, gloves and a hat. However, my bosses decided it was probably a good idea that I not stay at the office very long and head home.
I navigated the snowy sidewalks back home and curled up on the couch and simultaneously monitored my work email and The Weather Channel.
The snow has basically stopped now but the wind is howling away. Here’s hoping to better weather tomorrow!
It’s finally the weekend and I’m happy to say I survived my first full week living in Manhattan. I found an apartment on Monday and am looking forward to moving in in a few weeks. I’m lucky to be crashing with a friend until then.
I started my new job on Wednesday and was immediately thrown into everything. I know things will get easier in time but right now I feel like I’m struggling to keep up. With everything I’ve gone through the past couple weeks, it’s sometimes difficult to focus on my work.
After work on Wednesday, I popped into Hill Country Barbecue for a friend’s friend’s birthday party. It was fun but I definitely was surprised to find the restaurant’s country decor and music in the heart of the big city. If you ever stop in for a bite, I highly recommend the brisket and corn pudding!
Now that it’s the weekend I’m looking forward to catching up on sleep, settling in and binge-watching HGTV. I know I should get out and explore my new city but, for now at least, I’m content to just relax and get used to my new surroundings.
Welcome to C & The City, my latest blog project. If you’ve come here from my other blog, That Tall Girl, then you already know a little bit about me. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m a beauty product junkie, a craft beer snob, and an aspiring world traveler.
I’ve also been given the chance to achieve a dream I’ve had for quite a while: moving to New York City to work for a magazine.
I feel very fortunate to be given this rare opportunity. Not everyone gets the chance to chase after their dreams and I absolutely can’t wait to start this incredible journey. I’ll be using this blog to chronicle my move, early days at work and city adventures.
Feel free to follow along and share your stories, recommendations and experiences with me!
